ADHRB submits written statement to the Human Rights Council on Bahrain

On the occasion of the 31st session of the Human Rights Council, ADHRB in conjunction with partner organizations submitted a written statement to the Council regarding human rights in Bahrain, and the abuse of anti-terror legislation.

Updates from the Ground


  • Authorities arrested 11 individuals, including 1 child.
  • Criminal and appeals courts altered, upheld convictions, and sentenced 51 individuals to 268 years in prison.
  • Courts postponed the trials of 79 individuals.
  • A Bahraini court revoked the citizenship of 5 individuals.
  • The Bahraini judiciary acquitted 3 policemen and reduced the sentences of an officer and 2 policemen from 5 years to 3 years in prison. They were charged with torturing 6 detainees which resulted in the death of one of them.
  • A court postponed the trial of 8 individuals who had their citizenship revoked in 2012 to 5 April 2016.
  • An individual was fined 200 Bahraini dinars for criticizing parliament members on the social media website Instagram.
