Immediate and Impartial Investigation Needed After Death of Teenager
The Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD) alongside the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR), Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB), the European Centre for Democracy and Human Rights (ECDHR) and the Justice Human Rights Organization (JHRO) call for an immediate and impartial investigation into the death of 17-year-old Ali Abdulghani after he died from injuries sustained during his arrest by Bahraini security forces.
Updates from the Ground
- Authorities arrested 34Â individuals, including 5Â children and 1 woman.
- Criminal and appeals courts altered, upheld convictions and sentenced 43 individuals to 481 years and 4 months in prison.
- Courts postponed the trials of 29 individuals.
- More than 50 protests in various villages and towns around Bahrain were documented during Formula One and the days preceding it.
- The fifth criminal court sentenced Ebrahim Karimi, who had his citizenship revoked in 2012, to 2 years and 1 month in prison and a fine of 2100 Bahraini dinars over charges of inciting against the government and a neighboring country on Twitter.
- Bahraini authorities summoned and interrogated Wa’ad Society’s General Secretary Radhi al-Mosawi for a speech he delivered at a solidarity event with Ebrahim Sharif. Similarly, Bahraini poet Ahmed al-Ajami was summoned for delivering a poem at that same event.
- Authorities summoned Shia clerics Sayed Majeed al-Mishal and Sheikh Ali Humaidan and interrogated them for their Friday prayers speeches. Al-Mishal said that he was accused of inciting against the regime and was questioned about mentioning the UN joint communication report in his speech.

An Overview of ADHRB Engagement at the 31st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council
From 29 February to 24 March, Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) took part in the 31st Session of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva to raise awareness of human rights violations in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. During the Session, ADHRB met with dozens of UN Member States, NGOs, UN officials, and members of the UN Special Procedures. Additionally, ADHRB hosted two side events, participated in a third, and conducted a series of oral interventions before the Council.
