In Response to Bahrain Executions, French MP Renews Call for Universal Abolition of the Death Penalty

In the wake of Bahrain’s execution of three men, including Bahraini citizens Ali Al Arab and Ahmed Al Malali, French Senator Jean-Marie Bockel reaffirmed France’s opposition to the death penalty in any and all circumstances. As President of the Groupe d’amitié parlementaire France – Pays du Golfe, Jean-Marie BOCKEL, Senatour of the Haut-Rhin, former Minister, reacts to the execution of three Bahraini citizens on Saturday 27 July, in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

After a two-year moratorium, the authorities of Bahrain have executed three citizens on Saturday 27 July.

Jean-Marie BOCKEL fully shares the reaction of France and its European partners which reiterate their constant opposition to the death penalty, in every place and every circumstance.

Jean-Marie BOCKEL recalls the French position in favour of the universal abolition of the death penalty. He calls upon all the States who still make use of capital punishment to establish a moratorium towards its definitive abolition.
