ADHRB submits reports ahead of the United States’ Universal Periodic Review on its support for abuses in Bahrain and Yemen

Ahead of the United States of America’s third cycle Universal Periodic Review, Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) submitted two reports assessing how US support for the Governments of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates had empowered those governments to commit numerous egregious human rights abuses.

In the first submission addressing US support for the Government of Bahrain, ADHRB examined how Bahrain uses US foreign military sales and foreign military financing to purchase weapons used against human rights defenders and activists, and how US security force training programs provide support for Bahraini units that commit human rights abuses.

ADHRB’s second submission looked at how US support to the Governments of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates has contributed to human rights violations in Yemen. The United States provides technical assistance to Saudi Arabia in its aerial campaign in Yemen as well as millions of dollars to both governments. As a result of this support, the US has become a critical partner in the war efforts, as well as complicit in violations carried out by its allies.
