French MP Clémentine Autain Tables Question on Bahrain

3 December 2019 – Today, French Member of Parliament (MP) Clémentine Autain tabled a question to the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs on “serious human rights abuses” in Bahrain. She noted the intensification of human rights abuses since 2017, including arbitrary arrests and detention, torture, and sexual assault, and the increase in political prisoners, paying particular note of women prisoners. MP Autain also raised the case of political prisoner Hassan Mushaima, and asked whether the French government would exert pressure to secure the release of prisoners.

Previously, on 29 October, MP Jean François Mbaye tabled a question to the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs on the deteriorating human rights situation in Bahrain, highlighting the cases of Sheikh Ali Salman, Hassan Mushaima, Abdulwahab Hussain, Nabeel Rajab, and Dr. Abduljalil Al-Singace. On 26 November, MPs Sébastien Nadot, Alain David, and Hubert Julien-Laferriére each tabled a question on the human rights situation in Bahrain.
