At HRC 43, ADHRB call on Implementation of the Stockholm Agreement

Today, Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) delivered an oral intervention at the 43rd Session of the Human Rights Council during the General Debate under Item 2. ADHRB called on the Council to apply pressure on Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain as states participating in the war on Yemen, to implement the terms of the Stockholm Agreement, and bring about an end to this war.

Mr President,

We support the High Commissioner’s call for continued independent international investigations into violations of international humanitarian law & war crimes occurring in Yemen and continue to call on all parties to respect their obligations under international law, resolutions and agreements entered into.

Despite the Stockholm Agreement stipulating that a mutual redeployment of forces from the city of Hodeidah would take place, we have only witnessed a partial redeployment taken by de facto authority in Sanaa but have not seen any reciprocation from the Saudi-led Coalition backed government as there has been no redeployment of Coalition fighters to this date, nor a stoppage of shelling on civilian areas in and around the city of Hodeidah.

Although over a year has passed, the freedom of movement of civilians, goods and humanitarian aid from and to the city of Hodeidah has not been facilitated and revenues of the ports have not been deposited at the Central Bank of Yemen’s Hodeidah branch as a contribution to the payment of salaries throughout Yemen. The Prisoners Exchange Agreement has not been implemented in full and the committee on Taiz has not produced any results. Given that the terms of the Stockholm Agreement have not been implemented for the past year, the Stockholm Agreement is in peril and along with it the humanitarian situation.

Mr. President,

We call on the Council to apply pressure Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain as states participating in the war on Yemen to implement the terms of the Stockholm Agreement fully and ultimately, bring about an end to this war.

Thank you.
