At UN, ADHRB Condemns Bahrain’s Use of Foreign Mercenaries in State Security Forces

Geneva, Switzerland — 16 September 2015 — On behalf of Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain, the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy, and the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, Advocacy Associate Eric Eikenberry delivered an oral intervention at the 30th Session of the Human Rights Council concerning the Bahraini government’s extensive recruitment of foreign nationals into its state security forces. In particular, Mr. Eikenberry related that foreign nationals with mercenary-like characteristics had oppressed Bahrain’s native Baharna population, being implicated in a number of grave human rights violations including arbitrary detention and extrajudicial killing.
