At HRC52 ADHRB call on Bahrain to immediately and unconditionally release Dr. Abduljalil Alsingace

On 23 March, ADHRB  has delivered an oral intervention at the United Nation Human Rights Council session 52 under item 4 during the General debate.  ADHRB call on Bahrain to immediately and unconditionally release Dr. Abduljalil Alsingace.

Mr. president,

We would like to bring to the attention of the council the case of Dr. Abduljalil AlSingace, one of the most prominent Bahraini human rights defenders who was arbitrarily arrested, tortured and continues to face gruesome violations, along with other activists and opposition leaders in prison. Most recently, on 8 July 2021, Dr. AlSingace went on a hunger strike to protest the ill treatment he was subjected to at Jau Prison as well as the confiscation of his writings, which he had spent 4 years working on. . Moreover, Dr. Abduljalil has been subjected to medical negligence, a systematic policy used by Bahraini authorities as a form of reprisal. Authorities have denied him treatment for his various chronic diseases including low blood pressure, blood sugar levels, low white blood cell count, pain and inflammation of the joints. Despite concerns expressed by three special procedure offices, including the SRs on human rights defenders, health, and disabilities, Bahrain ignored their calls for his immediate release and refused to end these inhumane practices. We strongly condemn the mistreatment of Dr. Abduljalil and urge the Council to pressure the Bahraini government to immediately release him and to allow Special Procedures offices to visit the country. Moreover, we call on the council to consider and suspend Bahrain’s membership in the council as these violations should not be ignored. Thank you
